Note: Texans on Mission volunteer Stephanie Wodrich wrote the following on Facebook about her time serving in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene.

This past week God put it on my heart to go down and serve the people affected by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. I didn’t know what that would look like or if it would even be possible so I just prayed that if it was God’s will that He would open doors and if not that He would shut them. Things kept falling into place and doors kept opening so I found myself driving to Spindale, N.C., last Sunday.
Even on my way down there I had no idea what I was getting myself into but I was just praying that God would lead me and use me where He saw fit. I ended up being placed with a chainsaw team from “Deep East Texas” with the organization “Texas Baptist Mission”. As you can tell from the picture there are a few differences between me and my crew;) At the beginning of the week that began to make me timid and I began to think that I shouldn’t have come and that I wasn’t meant to be there. I quickly learned that this did not matter to God because we had the only thing we needed to have in common, Jesus Christ. I’m so thankful for the team God put me on and the way God used them to speak to me and used all of us together to serve Him. God brought every one of us there to serve Him and to advance His kingdom and that’s exactly what happened.
Jesus was so clearly present with us, we were united under Him and we were able to serve Him together and His love was felt in everything we did. Whether it was sitting at lunch sharing stories, praying with the home-owners, or Rickie Parker taking me in as his student and teaching me everything I need to know about working a chain saw. God worked this week and we got to be a part of growing His kingdom.
This week our crew served many people affected by the hurricane cutting trees and more, but more importantly we got to share Christ with those people. Throughout the week we had 6 of the home-owners we worked for accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.
God reminded me this week that He is bigger than anything I can imagine. He will work His plans out for good and the only thing I have to do is be obedient to Him, trust in Him, and walk in the Spirit and He will take care of the rest.
God is so good! Thank you Jesus!!
