Texans on Mission Camp Builders are renovating the first bunkhouse of many at Highland Lakes Camp & Conference Center, a faith-focused camp in Spicewood, west of Austin.
The camp is undergoing other renovations, allowing it to hold more attendees and staff than ever before. Whether it be a camp, conference, meeting or retreat, Highland Lakes serves many in the name of Christ on a yearly basis. As they expand, the bunkhouses on the campus must expand, too.
A lot of the bunkhouses even become the primary residence for staff 15 weeks of the year.
“We are very fortunate to have [Texans on Mission],” said John Bailey, director of operations. “In order for us to maintain our facilities, you need a pretty strong volunteer program.”
Since 1954, the camp has helped provide life-changing experiences alongside an encouraging and relaxing atmosphere, and TXM volunteers are helping maintain that.
The team is only in the first phase of renovations for the Bell bunkhouse. After taking it down to the studs, they will provide updates to the bunkhouse through the end of September. Camp Builders has helped many camps across Texas, and it’s a blessing to see these volunteers adding another to the list for God’s glory.
“They come together. They see the job. They see the need, and they work together to make it happen,” said Norman Flowers, Highland Lakes’ executive director.
