TXM works with local FCA to care for Mansfield teachers

The sun had not risen yet, but a dozen Texans on Mission volunteers busily made lunch for teachers at Legacy High School in Mansfield, southeast of Fort Worth.

It was part of a week-long effort by TXM and the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter to “show teachers appreciation and God loves them,” said Genia Macon (above at right), TXM unit leader.

She said her team would feed more than 2,000 fajita meals during the last week of February across several Mansfield schools. TXM delivered the meals daily, while FCA provided food service at each location.

TXM brought a refrigeration trailer full of fajita meat, rice, vegetables, beans, chips and salsa to make the effort happen.

“Teachers sometimes are unappreciated,” Macon said. “As a retired teacher myself, I know how wonderful it is when somebody takes a little special care to give you something extra. Because we love the Lord, we serve the Lord, and we serve them.”

TXM volunteer J.C. Crabtree agreed. “We want to show them the love of Christ, and we support them by showing them the love of Jesus Christ through what we do.”

The group prepared the meals in the parking lot of First Methodist Church of Mansfield, just two weeks after a TXM Disaster Relief training was held there.

Feeding volunteer Vicky Hale (left photo below), who also is the church’s missions ministry associate, was a recent trainee.

“I’m here to show teachers appreciation and that they are cared about and we love them and they are not alone,” Hale said.
